Panama Entry & Exit Requirements


Probably the constant unknown with all these new variants flying around is about what are the updated entry requirements into Panama. So, this has not changed for months and there is no change to the current policy on the horizon for the better or worse.


As it stands, if you are fully vaccinated (at least 14 days prior to arrival), you do not need to present a negative covid test or quarantine. You simply need to register your vaccination card online at



...and that's it! Welcome to Panama! In Panama, there are no restrictions to living other than the mandatory use of masks in public, but come on, that's one small thing to have freedom and enjoy your vacation.


For reentry into your home country, that may vary and you'll need to figure that for your specific country. The rest of this article is the actual mandates as presented by the Panamanian government for your reference.

What are the protocols to enter Panama today?

  • Any national, resident or foreigner who enters the national territory, whether by air, land or sea, will be exonerated from presenting Covid-19 test results and 72-hour preventive quarantine, provided that they have registered digitally or presently of Physical form the vaccination card, with a complete schedule with more than 14 days from the last dose.

  • Any national, resident or foreigner who enters the national territory, coming from a low-risk country and does not have the complete vaccination scheme, must present a PCR or negative antigen test with a maximum of 72 hours of validity.

  • If the traveler presents a Covid-19 test of more than 72 hours, a rapid COVID test will be mandatory, which will be borne by the traveler, prior to their passage through migration. (estimated cost $ 50)

  • Children under 12 years of age are exempt from any Covid-19 test, if their parents, guardians or caregivers meet the requirements established according to the level of epidemiological risk of the country of origin.

  • Obligatory and correct use of a surgical mask at all times.

  • The mask can only be removed in identification processes such as: immigration, customs or prominent police service at the airport, maintaining distancing measures.

  • Only children under 3 years old and those with a medical condition that affects the use of the mask will be exempt from the use of the mask.

  • For connecting flights, it is not necessary to present a negative COVID-19 test or to quarantine, as long as your transit hours remain in the international zone, that is, you should not leave due to migration.


NOTE:

  • In the case of people with a disease other than COVID, which prevents them from breathing with the surgical mask, they must wear a face shield and present a medical certificate indicating the disease they suffer and the medical recommendation that they should not use such personal protective equipment.

  • Passengers who do not travel together or in a social bubble, must maintain a minimum physical distance of 2 meters.

  • Upon arrival in Panama (at the airport exit), go to the counter of the Tourism Authority of Panama to be attended by a Tourism Promoter.

  • On the other hand, as a State Security establishment, the National Migration Service (SNM), asks tourists to allow their entry to Panama: Passport with a minimum validity of three months, passage or ticket back to the country of origin or continuation of the trip, tourist visa authorized as the case may be and economic solvency of a minimum of B / 500.00 balboas, or its equivalent in credit card, bank reference, work letter or traveler's checks.

  • In some cases, the immigration inspector, after a previous interview, may request proof of payment from the hotel where you will be staying.

  • If the tourist belongs to a country that is allowed to enter with a stamped visa, the foreigner must apply for the visa at the Panamanian consulate and thus arrive in Panama with the visa already stamped in his passport.

Entry protocol for high risk countries


The countries considered "High risk" are: Cayman Islands, Barbados, Anguilla, Bonaire, United Kingdom, Greece, Austria, Czech Republic, Estonia, Serbia, Latvia, Lithuania, Slovenia, Hungary, Faroe Islands, Ireland, Montenegro, Croatia, Netherlands, Slovkia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Armenia, Ukraine, Jersey, Giorgia and Guernsey. Resolution No. 2878 of November 12, 2021


Any national, resident or foreigner who has stayed or traveled in the last 15 days in a high-risk country and has a complete vaccination scheme must: present their digital vaccination certificate or their physical card, to be exonerated from quarantine.


Any national, resident or foreigner who has stayed or traveled in the last 15 days in a high-risk country and does not have a complete vaccination scheme must:


  • Present a negative Covid 19 test result with 72 hours of validity, upon entering Panama.

  • Carry out 72-hour preventive quarantine at your cost, in hotels authorized by the Ministry of Health, which can be found at Visitpanama.com

  • At the end of requesting a test in the hotel, which if its result is negative, will end the quarantine.


Entry protocol for very high risk countries


Countries considered "very high risk" are: South Africa, Botswana, Eswatini, Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Zimbabwe and Malawi. Resolution No. 2878 of November 12, 2021


Any national, resident or foreigner who has stayed or traveled in the last 15 days in a very high risk country and does not have a complete vaccination scheme must:


  • Present a negative Covid 19 test result with 72 hours of validity, upon entering Panama.

  • Carry out 72-hour preventive quarantine at your cost, in hotels authorized by the Ministry of Health, which can be found at Visitpanama.com

  • At the end of requesting a test in the hotel, which if its result is negative, will end the quarantine.

  • Any national, resident or foreigner who has stayed or traveled in the last 15 days in a very high risk country and has a complete vaccination scheme must:


Present a negative Covid 19 test result with 72 hours of validity, upon entering Panama.

After 72 hours, a pcr or antigen test must be repeated, which will be requested by the health authority.
